ELTON
2nd April 2005
Leigh
& Lowton Juniors went travelling -
Unseasonally warm weather greeted them at Elton
It
was Elton Sailing Club that hosted the curtain-raiser to the 2005 North
West Junior Travellers series for 2005. They organised a great day for
the juniors that travelled from North West sailing clubs. Sophie Stott,
Andrew Price, Sarah & Lucy Yeates from Leigh & Lowton made the
journey and were greeted by a near perfect F3 wind and warm hazy sunshine.
Elton were a bit surprised to find a full carpark of 16 Toppers 2 Lasers
& 4 Optimists being rigged, they took the onslaught in their stride
& provided 3 great races which were eagerly watched by parents &
grandparents from the comfort of the lawned viewing area in front of the
clubhouse.
The wind strength & direction ensured comfortable sailing conditions
for all, perhaps Andrew would have preferred an extra Weetabix or two
before setting out, at least the practise capsizes will have swept away
the winter cobwebs! Sophie put a strong series together finishing the
last race 6th in the handicap fleet. Sarah & Lucy had each other as
competition, after 2 races it was one win each, Sarah took the last race
to win the Optimist fleet overall (so a reasonably peaceful drive home),
a couple of Elton youngsters seemed to enjoy their Oppy racing. Everyone
was handed an Elton SC prizewinning mug to take home, Lucy did share a
few of her chocolates.
Next stop Winsford - 16th April
